Bit
The term 'bit' is a portmanteau of 'binary digit', coined by John Tukey in 1947.
Byte
The term 'byte' was coined by Werner Buchholz in 1956 during the early design phase for the IBM Stretch computer.
Nibble
A nibble is a four-bit aggregation, or half an octet. It is also known as a half-byte or tetrade.
Megabyte
